On the 3rd July 2024, Materials in Mind hosted the first Accelerating Circular Construction event to:
Circular and regenerative practices within the built environment/construction industries are essential for protecting our planet and communities. However, a truly circular economy requires strong collaboration among stakeholders, across industries, and a laser focus on resolving barriers to implementation.
This event was aimed at bringing together experienced industry practitioners to discuss 'key conditions' for CE, and to share progress on an early stage multi-stakeholder initiative - FactoryX.
Proceedings began with an introduction to the day from Jenny Ford, Director at Materials in Mind.

Materials in Mind supports organisations and individuals to adopt the right tools and partners to build more sustainable and resilient practice. We help promote best practice in the area and seek innovative partners to create cultural and economic incubation spaces and networks.
FactoryX is an in-development 'show & do' park for accelerating low carbon, circular and regenerative practice - and will be shaped by industry partners and members. It blends elements of innovation parks (e.g. BRE), exhibition/conference centres (e.g. Excel/NEC industry events), the European self/custom build housing showpark/village model, and materials reuse/processing hubs (e.g. rotordc.com). The facility looks to Bristol's Temple Quarter - a 20+ year major mixed use regeneration area, ideal for engagement with industry and supply chain alike - and easily accessible by the public (FX could include a visitor/exhibition centre, show buildings, events, industry taster days etc.) - and could connect with other projects being activated across the city and further afield.
